J-Term students, the information on this page is summer-specific. But the Pre-MBA World Tour is a student-run initiative. Want to make it available for J-Term students? We encourage you to take charge!

Pre-MBA World Tour - What is it? Should I go?

The Pre-MBA World Tour was started in the summer of 2008 (Class of 2010) by a group of admitted students during the first open house (Columbia Connect). A few people started asking around to see if anyone else wanted to travel together and so many people were interested that they decided to invite the whole class (about 100 people participated). Last summer, nearly 140 people met up in over 40 countries around the world, had an amazing time and made life-long friendships! You can see some photos from 2008 here.

Each year, admitted student from the entering class have continued to carry on this great tradition... This year is expected to be even better!

Here's how it works: Prior year's "Travel Team Captains" help modify the new itinerary, update the website and recruit new students (during Columbia Connect) from the admitted class to be the new TTC's for one of the six regions. The new TTC's then help recruit other admitted students from around the world to be "City Ambassadors" (aka "tour guide") who can take you around their home towns to show you all the best local spots that you wouldn't naturally find on your own.

If you are interested in helping to organize or lead any of the trips this summer, please contact Boris Vaisman (http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=9001961).

Although the website may seem somewhat "official", the trips are actually very informal and basically provide a way for you guys to coordinate your travel plans this summer -- you take care of all your own travel arrangements (plane tickets, visa, immunizations, etc.) -- but all the activities are planned out by your Ambassadors and Team Captains. You will also have the opportunity to rub shoulders with senior executives, government officials, and CBS alumni in a casual setting. Last summer, a group of students met Bill Clinton for dinner in Argentina!

Whether you might want to go somewhere like China and Brazil we highly recommend you join a few of the trips this summer!
